Mission and Values

Picture
Since 1999, the Video Interaction Project team has been working to equal the playing field so that all children have the opportunity to start school ready to learn.  VIP is strengths-based and positive - using the power of video feedback to support parents and build upon their skills.

Mission
The mission of Video Interaction Project (VIP) is to promote early relational health and thereby prevent disparities in child development and school readiness at population-level, before these disparities emerge. VIP works to fulfill this mission using real-time video-feedback at pediatric health care visits to reinforce strengths and build family resilience. VIP addresses a critical social justice challenge facing the United States - inequality of opportunity for young children in families facing structural barriers related to poverty and racism.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At VIP, we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels.  Central to VIP’s mission is the fact that it is strengths based, positive, and respectful of parents and caregivers as the experts of their children. VIP supports parents in achieving their goals for themselves and their children, while honoring each parent’s culture, experience, parenting style, and family structure.
We continually strive to ensure that:
  • The program, all program materials, and information about the program are inclusive, sensitive, and appropriate for parents and caregivers from multiple cultures, races, ethnicities, genders and gender identities, sexual orientations, family structures, and religious beliefs
  • The program, all program materials, and information about the program are as inclusive and accessible to parents and caregivers as possible regardless of language spoken, literacy level, citizenship status, income, ability, or developmental need
  • The VIP team is educated in cultural sensitivity and is committed to anti-racism and inclusivity
  • The VIP team is inclusive, diverse, and representative of the communities served. This includes ensuring that processes for recruiting and hiring for positions and internships are as inclusive as possible, actively working to engage diverse candidates, particularly for leadership positions; ensuring that all employees, particularly BIPOC employees and those who are members of other historically underrepresented groups, have opportunities for mentorship, promotion, and career development; and ensuring that the work environment is supportive and inclusive for all employees
