Virtual VIP
|
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, we knew how critical it was to support our VIP families. Parents and young children are some of the hardest hit by this pandemic, with so many disruptions to childcare, support services, education, and more.
The VIP COE worked in the spring of 2020 to develop structured processes for 'Virtual VIP', so that VIP was able to quickly pivot to remote delivery across all sites. Services were made available through phone or video telehealth, allowing for continuity of care for 2,000+ families during the height of the pandemic. Standardized processes across sites allowed for maintenance of fidelity throughout the pandemic. |
VIP was developed simultaneously in English and Spanish. The VIP COE is actively engaging in translation and adaptation work for Mandarin Chinese for delivery with Chinese and Chinese-American families in NYC, and for Brazilian Portuguese for delivery with families in Brazil.
This work involves needs assessments of families and identification of parenting goals, translation of written and program materials, examination of toys/books and selection of alternates if needed, adaptation of aspects of program to be culturally aligned, as determined through piloting and feedback from families and experts. |
